While claims against the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts are most commonly reported, many of the attorneys on this website have significant experience pursuing claims against other youth-serving institutions that failed to protect children from being sexually abused. For example, they have pursued claims against the Mormon Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the YMCA, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and they have filed claims on behalf of students of public and private schools and foster children.
New Jersey passed a new law that provides survivors of childhood sexual abuse with more time to file a legal claim for the abuse they suffered. Under the new law, survivors can file a legal claim until age 55 OR “within seven years from the date of reasonable discovery of the injury and its causal relationship to the act.” We believe this likely means that survivors have until seven years after they have reasonably discovered the serious psychological and mental illness they suffered was caused by the sexual abuse.
Many people are confused about how the new law would work, so please contact us for a free, confidential consultation to learn your legal options and to ensure your legal rights are protected. We represent multiple abuse survivors in New Jersey with claims against the Catholic Church, the Boy Scouts, and others. You are not alone, and it was not your fault.
